Jewellery Care

Our silver seashell jewellery pieces are all handmade. Without using mass-produced production equipment, the components are sawed, carved, soldered, and formed.

At Sippi we prioritize quality over quantity and the pieces are designed to last a lifetime.

  • Your jewellery is safe to wear in the ocean. However, best jewellery practice is to take your pieces off before you go in the water.
  • If you do wear your jewellery in the ocean, be sure to rinse it off with fresh water afterwards.
  • When not wearing your jewellery, store it in a cool, dry place.

Wearing your jewellery is the greatest method to shield it from tarnish. Silver jewellery may tarnish over time due to oxidation reactions, especially when sulfur and oxygen are present. Wearing and using your silver will prevent oxidation and keep it polished, glossy, and lovely.

One of the best ways to clean your jewellery is with a professional jewellery polishing cloth. Silver polishing cloths are available at major supermarkets, at hardware stores and at jewellery stores. We do not recommend silver dips or liquid cleaners, as our jewellery incorporates natural shells and pearls which can be easily damaged by these harsh chemicals. To make your seashells shine for a polished look, rub them with mineral oil or baby oil and allow that to dry for 24 hours.

To keep shell jewellery looking great a simple care routing is all that is required.

  • Use a soft 100% cotton cloth to  wipe the shell to maintain it clean and clear of debris that could dull the shell's brightness.
  • You can also clean the shells using toothpaste, then give them a shine with a light application of baby oil.
  • Avoid getting hairspray or perfume on the shell as this might mark it. Minerals spas are great just remove your silver shell jewellery before you jump in! Please don't ever wear your jewellery in a mineral spa - your jewellery will turn very black.
  • Store correctly to minimize tarnish and scratches!
  • Another suggestion is to divide the compartments in your jewellery box and store each piece separately in a small airtight protective bag. Silver tarnishes naturally over time as a result of exposure to air and moisture. Your expensive jewellery's chance of tarnishing will be significantly reduced if you store it in airtight bags. Additionally, your jewellery will be shielded from scuffs and scratches. Additionally, you can put anti-tarnish paper strips inside your jewellery box. Put one strip in each tiny plastic bag that holds your jewellery after cutting the strips into small bits. These strips are available at hardware or craft stores.
  • Please don't dip! Please.... never dip any silver shell jewellery in 'dip' solutions or commercial cleaning solutions even though it may say that it is for silver jewellery. Chemical dip contains acids and accelerates the tarnish removal. The corrosive nature of acid can damage and pit your silver. Dip cleaners will work the first few times, but after that the silver jewellery may turn in colour and will never look the same. And the shell inlay in your silver jewellery may be damaged from the dip solution.
  • Never put your silver in the dishwasher. The harsh dish detergent and high-water temperatures are too abrasive for your prized sterling silver. Always wash your silver by hand and dry with a soft 100% cotton cloth.
